Math + candy = ???

Well, the candy part sounds good anyway.... Here is Wednesday's brain bender:

Matthew had $2 to spend. He wanted to buy jelly beans and licorice sticks. He paid $1.50 for 5 jelly beans and 20 licorice sticks. For the same amount he could have bought 10 jelly beans and 10 licorice sticks. How much did each item cost?

And even more importantly, who the hell buys jelly beans individually and then gets only 5?? That's freekin' stupid!!! Sometimes I wonder about these MENSA people who wrote this goofy calendar.... Do they let those guys out into the world ever? Sheesh!

And Matthew? Hey, um... Matt? Guys buy jawbreakers and giant candybars and fire balls and stuff like that. Jelly beans and licorice sticks? Lame...
