The English language is a strange beast...

Home from school today, my youngest A. brought home a Geography study guide.

One of the instructions within the guide was:

6. The continents and oceans will need to be spelt correctly on the test.

And I got stuck... Spelt?

Spelt??

I think that I would have written, "The continents and oceans will need to be spelled correctly on the test."

Hmmmm....

So what do you think??

Spelt?

Or spelled??

Or is this just one of those strange English rules where either is correct??

Enquiring minds want to know.

(And is it just me, or does spelt just look weird as a word??)
